Cape Town

If you have time, a visit to Cape Town is highly recommended. Known as the “Mother City” it is a jewel in South Africa’s crown; visually beautiful, vibrant and cosmopolitan. You should include some of the following highlights in your itinerary:

Table Mountain

(of course!) This natural monument towers above and dominates the city’s skyline. You can hike up to the top if you are reasonably fit or catch a cable car (queues for the cable cars can be long so we recommend an early start). The mountain top is a preserved area with it’s own micro-climate. It sports stunning views over the city and across the sea to Robben Island.

Robben Island

Take a ferry across and a tour of the now disused prison colony where Nelson Mandela was held in detention for many years. A sobering experience.

Boulder’s Beach and Seal Island

A great day trip from Cape Town can take in a trip to the penguin colony at Boulder’s Beach and a boat trip out to an island populated by seals. Fun for adults and children alike.

Victoria and Alfred Waterfront

Cape Town’s hub for shopping, cafés and entertainment.

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Enjoy a walk around, or stay for a picnic in one of the world’s best botanical gardens. A must for lovers of nature.

Stellenbosch and the winelands

Wine lovers can take an organised tour from Cape Town out into the gentle scenery of the winelands to visit a few of the vineyards and enjoy some excellent wine tasting. Purchase some wine at good prices to savour during the rest of your stay.
